2007 Record (5-11)
Key Losses: Steve McNair (QB), Mike Flynn (C)
Key Additions: None
From a 13 win season to a 5-11 record the Ravens are on a downward spiral that is not likely to reverse itself in 2008. Baltimore will rely heavily on having draft choices make quick impacts on the team this year, not normally a great formula for success. The most interesting of these is most certainly first round selection QB Joe Flacco. The strongest armed QB in the draft but by far the least known coming from a IAA school they took Flacco ahead of Henne and Brohm. I believe Flacco has a chance to be a quality NFL quarterback but I also believe that even the best QB prospects struggle in their first year. The jump in the “speed of the game” will be even more significant for Flacco.
From a handicapping perspective this is an under the total team rather often, but the number gets so low sometimes it’s often difficult to consider this a strong pick. The Ravens have a tough schedule and with so much newness in place they look to struggle again this season as the defense gets a year older.
Predicted 2008-09 Record: 4-12
