2007 Record: 13-3
Key Losses: Corey Williams (DT), Brett Favre?????
Key Additions: Brandon Chillar (LB), Brett Favre?????
Seems entirely too soon to preview the Packers for 08-09 as the will he or won’t he story of Brett Favre coming back to the Packers remains unsettled. The problem with waiting to preview the Packers is that the Favre saga may drag on well into training camp and pre-season games.
The Packers, led by Favre with an amazing season, exceeded expectations last season as a young team (at least on both lines) matured and improved throughout the year. The problem they face going into next season is that the WRs and CBs they are counting are have plenty of age on them.
With their offensive and defensive line this team has a chance to be very successful if their DBs and WRs can still get the job done for this season. In an NFC that is not that strong (although I really like Minnesota in the division) the Packers getting back to the playoffs is a prediction I feel pretty good about even with Rodgers as their starting QB. But if Favre returns and is not a backup (don’t even get me started on the Packers front office concerning this whole thing) then the Packers should challenge Dallas for a trip to the Super Bowl.
So stay tuned to the Favre story……
Predicted 2008-09 Record: 10-6 with Rodgers
Challenging Minnesota down the stretch for the division but in as at least a wild card team.
11-5 with Favre, edging out Minnesota and challenging for a trip to the Super Bowl.
