College Football Picks – Week 1 – Monday 9/6/10

College football week 1 wraps up with a great game…this might be the only real test Boise St faces and although I’m not sure they can pass it that’s not the smart pick.

Boise St/Va Tech UNDER 50
It’s defense first with both teams and though Boise St lays some big numbers on out manned teams on the blue carpet in Boise, very different situation tonight.

College Football Picks – Week 1 – Sunday 9/5/10

The great thing about week 1 of the college football season – games on Sunday! I like plays in both games!

East Carolina +7
I don’t see these teams this far apart, so a 7 point home dog is tough to turn down.

SMU/Texas Tech OVER 60.5
Last year this number would have been 70+ and I don’t think either team is as high powered both will still be high scoring threats again this year.

College Football Picks – Week 1 – Saturday 9/4/10

Nice way to start my CFB picks with an easy win on Thursday night. Here’s what I like Saturday:

Western Michigan/Michigan State OVER 51
Both teams more then capable of putting up at least 28 points each.

Akron +8.5
Akron always tough at home and will be fired up for the opener against a Syracuse team that although should be better this season not ready for double digit road wins against a fundamentally sound team.

Wisconsin -20
Not only does Wisconsin feast on rolling up big wins against undersized defenses, they always fit the parameters of the system play that gave me the big Ohio St win on Thursday.

North Texas +27
Clemson is very impressive, yes but North Texas has enough fight in them to stay close against a Clemson squad who will put it in cruise control early.

College Football Picks – Week 1 – 9/2/10

MANY more picks to come for Saturday games but I like a play Thursday night.

Consider this trend:
Play with a team that won (and covered) in their bowl game last season and starts the new season in the Top 25 and since 2005 you’ve gone 29-9!

That applies tonight:

Ohio State -28

NFL Season Wins Over/Under Picks

I see a few opportunities to cash in on over/under season wins picks in the NFL this season – here’s what I like:

Carolina Panthers OVER 7 Wins - Matt Moore showed significant improvement during the season and he should be solid this season, this is at least a .500 team and 8-9 wins seems very realistic.

Buffalo Bills OVER 5 Wins - They’ll get in some shootouts this season and with an offense looking as promising as this one it’s tough not to like 6-7 wins this season.

Green Bay Packers OVER 9.5 Wins – Perhaps watching them in week 3 of the pre-season is clouding my judgement but this teams looks exceptionally good and they have a huge home field advantage. They do have a very tough schedule but 11-5 seems very doable.

Season Wins Over/Under College Football

There are a few teams this year that I really like to exceed their Vegas over/under season wins number. I won’t break them down individually as they all have something in common. Not an incredibly difficult schedule, tougher games tend to be at home, they are a bit under the radar and have been making steady improvement the past few years. Here’s where my money is this year on over/under season wins (in order, best at the top, of how strongly I played them):

Auburn OVER 8.5 Wins

Miami, FL OVER 8.5 Wins

Iowa OVER 8.5 Wins

Florida State OVER 7.5 Wins

North Carolina OVER 8 Wins

NFL Pre-Season Monday Night Football 8/23/10

I don’t care much for pre-season football, it’s really hard to watch and even harder to predict. But it isn’t hard to see that neither team this Monday has much depth on offense.
